SUP Events Coming To A Town Near You!

With the ever growing popularity of Stand Up Paddleboarding and its various disciplines there are several events, festivals, races and tours starting to be launched across the world. These include races that have been going on for years, events and multiday festivals and many more. Here is a guide on some of the top races, festivals and events that go on each year in the North America.

Races: Several SUP races have been going on for years and are at the top of SUP event lists historically.

OluKai Ho’olaule’a: One of the biggest and most attended SUP races. Ho’olaule’a – literally, it means “celebration”, but for us, it’s also an expression of gratitude. Each May, we hold our interpretation of this storied Hawaiian tradition on Maui’s north shore. The event blends elite competition with family-friendly cultural activities and gathers some of the world’s best SUP, OC1 & OC2 paddlers to race the legendary 8-mile Maliko downwind run.

Battle Of the Paddle:The Battle of the Paddle has grown in participation from both competitors and exhibitors every year. Last year we filled the beach with 171 exhibitor spaces. This year we will be able to facilitate a total 300 spaces. Battle of the Paddle is proud to hold the world’s largest Stand-Up-Paddle event at Salt Creek. Benefiting the Rainbow Sandals Foundation.

Na Pali: Na Pali Race is a Stand Up Paddleboard, Prone Paddleboard, and OC-1/2 race from Haena Beach Park along the Na Pali Coast, finishing at Polihale State Beach Park, Kauai, Hawaii. The Na Pali Race is an unforgettable paddling experience where this unique venue can be the ultimate downwind run, offering amazing mountain backdrops, waterfalls, caves, cliffs, and crystal clear waters. From start to finish the course is close to 17 miles.

Molokai2Oahu:The best in the world will descend upon the Hawaiian Islands for the annual Molokai to Oahu. The world class event takes paddlers across the Ka’iwi Channel, or Channel of Bones, testing endurance and skill for 32 miles of open ocean carnage.

Festivals: While paddle festivals aren’t new, the addition of SUP into them has brought many of these paddle festivals into the spotlight.

Payette River Games: Started in 2013 and serving as a meeting place for elite river and ocean athletes alike the Payette River games have turned into a must-attend event for anyone in the stand up paddleboard and kayaking communities.

Go Pro Mountain Games:Join the country’s largest celebration of adventure sports, music, and the mountain lifestyle at the 2014 Mountain Games in Vail Colorado. The four days of competition will span across nine sports in 25 disciplines, with SUP sprints and SUP cross events included. Benefitting the Vail Valley Foundation.

South Platte River Fest:This two day festival is Denver's premier urban RiverFest. Activities will include free stand up paddle board lessons and demos, a variety of riverside recreational activities, live music, beer, food, and more.

Trade shows and events: There are many Trade shows and events that have to do with the SUP category. Some of these are open to the public and others are trade only shows for industry related professionals. * Designates Non-public show.

Outdoor Retailer Summer Market: Largest outdoor sports show of its kind features retailers from across the nation, education, product demos, and various post-show activities. The Outdoor Retailer Summer Market has become a major SUP industry event with more and more board manufactures showcasing the latest products and innovations. *

Surf Expo: The longest running and largest boardsports and beach/resort lifestyle tradeshow in the world. The show features approximately 2,600 booths of apparel and hardgoods and a full line-up of special events, including fashion shows, annual awards ceremonies, and demos. *

Camp SUP: Camp SUP is an inclusive gathering, created to build the sport of standup paddling by getting people onto the water. Camp SUP will have wetsuit/SUP gear demos, clinics, an open paddle race, beer garden and more, all benefiting the California State Parks.

The Races, Festivals, and Tradeshows mentioned are just a small portion of all the SUP events that take place around the world each year.
